About the Artist
Alvaro Petritoli is Italian born, living in the UK. These paintings, all from his imagination, have a sense of escaping into a mystical world of fairytales and magic, of darkness and light. Alvaro's incredible artworks can both inspire and evoke a range of emotions, depending on the mood of the viewer. He is an inventive artist, constantly exploring new ways to master his chosen medium, using many layers of inks and mixed media. It is a constant discovery of new alchemic combinations, developing new ideas. Each artwork emerges from a continuous process of layering, erasing and reprocessing. His scientific approach to creating artwork, along with his superb ability to use his imagination, results in a unique and ever-evolving style.
Forests, Fireflies and stars
Fireflies in the forest and stars in the night sky connect us with the wonders of childhood and fairytales. As creatures of mystery and magic, fireflies invite the viewer to follow their luminous trail in the delicate dance between light and dark. In relation to stars, they define a nocturnal atmosphere where microcosm turns into macrocosm and vice versa. As human beings we naturally found ourselves at the crossroad between these two dimensions. Apart from the sea and the sky, blue is the rarest color in nature. It is linked with eternity, supernatural beauty, religious transcendence, the beyond.
The Moon
The celestial body nearest to Earth remains magnetic and elusive at the same time. The excitement of painting the Moon comes from engaging with its multitude of symbolic values: birth, death, perpetual renewal, the dark side of nature. The whiteness of moonlight consists of many colors. Throughout time and different cultures, the Moon continues to incite to creative, spiritual, sexual, and prophetic disposition.
Caroline learnt origami while teaching in Japan and has a Degree in Fine Art and PGCE in Art and Design. She began her career in art while working as an artist in residence from the age of 18. She has always worked with paper and sculpture.
Today Caroline creates original contemporary origami art. Using Japanese origami paper 'washi' Caroline will fold origami for months to build a harmony of colour to use like a palette of paint in the creation of a piece. The paper she uses is the same paper Rembrandt used and it is celebrated for its durability and preservative qualities. Caroline also creates her own patterned 'washi' through drawing, painting, printmaking, and by adding gold leaf to her designs. She uses both single sheet and modular origami in her work and her folded Butterflies and Cranes are modified to be completely unique.
Butterflies - symbolising Hope, Change, New Life, Beauty and Fragility
Cranes - a bird symbolising Peace, Love and Longevity
The story of Sadako Sasaki and the phrase 'I will write peace on your wings and you will fly all over the world' is Caroline's inspiration, and her wish for World Peace:
'This is our cry. This is our prayer. Peace in the World'
(Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park)
Legend states that the person who folds one thousand origami cranes will be granted their wish.
Caroline’s work is a combination of 3 distinct aspects – the discipline of precise folding of paper, the experience of pure visual sensation and aesthetic pleasure of looking at and engaging with the colours and patterns, and the symbolic messages the artworks hold of love, harmony and peace.

HELEN BROUGH 'Magic'October 2023
This series of work, entitled “Phantastical Landscapes” began in 2022. Brough considers the work to be inspired by the post-Impressionist Nouveau Nabi group, who believed that a work of art was not a depiction of nature, but a synthesis of metaphors and symbols created by the artist. For Brough, this style of landscape painting has as much to do with the internal as the external world. Over-stylised renditions of scenes are mixed with dream-like imagery hovering between landscape surrealism, abstract mark making and sublime colour combinations.
Brough says "I make work because it is how I become deeply connected to creation. I feel my way through various series and many things emerge from that process unexpectedly. The difficulty is accepting that certain works are outside my control, like life, it takes its own course."
Brough studied at Chelsea School of Art, earning a First Class BA degree in Sculpture and an MA in Sculpture. Her work has been exhibited extensively in galleries and museums in the USA and Europe where she has also won numerous awards and residencies.
